About Teacher

Korean-born Yanghee Kim grew up in Sydney and distinguished herself as a performer whilst in her teens, winning most of the major competitions in Australia including the ABC Young Performers’ Awards, the City of Sydney Eisteddfod Scholarship and the prestigious Landa Scholarship. She has also been awarded two Australia Council Fellowships and three successive BHP scholarships – among numerous other awards. She graduated from the NSW Conservatorium High School with a High Distinction in the ASCM course, going on to the University of Sydney where she achieved High Distinctions in performance. In 1989, she studied at the Texas Christian University in Fort Worth with Tamas Ungar, and further studies followed in London with Maria Curcio and Mark Swartzentrüber. She was resident in Europe for seven years (studying privately) where she was fortunate enough to be able to observe many great masters in performance. Yanghee has taken part in numerous master classes, some international competitions and has a tremendous amount of performance experience. Yanghee started teaching from a very early age, with now almost 25 years of experience. Her involvement with singers began when she was 18 when she began working as an accompanist and vocal coach, and ever since has been in love with the human voice. Yanghee is a totally dedicated and enthusiastic teacher and advocates teaching proper technique in order to produce the best sound possible as easily as possible (with emphasis on performance aspects) whether on a piano or using one’s own voice.
