Guitar Voice - Broome Academy of Music

About Teacher

Broome Academy of Music offers Singing, Guitar, Drums and Piano lessons in Broome. e: info@broomeacademyofmusic.com Tania McKenna is a professional singer and vocal specialist. She has worked in the music industry for over 24 years. She started her love of singing at a very young age and spent 8 years performing and travelling with the Australian Girls Choir. Tania studied a Bachelor of Music at the Adelaide Elder Conservatorium and has since worked consistently in the Music industry both as a Performer and as an educator. She has travelled and performed extensively including Canada, Japan Malaysia and all around Australia. As a vocal instructor, Tania went on to teach a section of The Australian Girls Choir and took part in the filming of the Qantas ‘I still call Australia Home’ commercial. She opened her first music school in Adelaide and has taught many students, some who have gone on to work in the industry as recording artists or as teachers themselves. Tania is very passionate about Music, in particular, Singing. She believes strongly in teaching a solid vocal technique and the value of knowledge and skills to aid performances. She believes that singing is a great way to build or improve self-esteem and self-confidence and a great way to learn many new skills. It is because of Tania’s extensive knowledge and passion for teaching that she has always been successful as a teacher. She looks forward to teaching many new students and giving them the opportunity to shine at performances and concerts. She is also a supporter of local charities and loves to empower students to offer their talents for a greater cause during their annual concerts. It was during a tour to Broome in 2002 that Tania met her partner and now resides in Broome with him and their three children. She feels a strong connection to the young people in this community and wants to offer them all the skills and knowledge that she has. We feel passionate about the fact that people all over the country should have access to a music school. There is a population of approximately 16,000 residents in Broome with a large percentage of primary and secondary aged students. We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to learn musical skills either for their own interest and therapy or to be able to pursue further education or a career in this field. It has long been known, researched and documented that the benefits of music are paramount in a person’s life. It is particularly true for people that struggle with difficulties in academic learning, or who come from disadvantaged backgrounds. It is a form of expression for people who otherwise cannot communicate effectively and it is a way for people to keep focussed on a task, committing to regular practice, rather than looking for other ways to spend their time. Music is a great ‘healer’ and can reach out to many different people in different ways. We hope to be able to continue to provide this service in the Kimberley.
