About Teacher
Dr. John Phillips offers expert tuition in piano, voice, theory, composition, musicology, with over 30 years experience teaching students of all ages. I hold a PhD in historical musicology, BMus(Hons) in piano, having undertaken extensive overseas study and research (including piano, conducting, vocal coaching, composition). I have had extensive experience at university and amateur level conducting and ensemble training, solo, accompanying and repetiteur work, and over 30 years of AMEB- and HSC-oriented piano and vocal teaching. I am a member of both SA and NSW Music Teacher Associations and hold a current WWCC. I also have extensive links with the professional world, having worked with major orchestras and conductors, including the Vienna and Berlin Philharmonic Orchestras, Nicholas Harnoncourt and Simon Rattle. I am a contributing editor of both old and new Bruckner Complete Editions (Vienna); my completion of the Bruckner Ninth Symphony has been widely performed and recorded internationally. I have a longstanding association with the Musicological Society of Australia as former National Secretary and current Awards Chair.General Information
